Rapid Changes in VC Funding for Entrepreneurs: Temares Entrepreneurship Forum and Dinner Featuring Dr. Peter Banks, Red Planet Capital

11/20/2009 - 6:00pm
11/20/2009 - 8:00pm

Over the past 20 years there has been an explosive appearance of innovative technology companies. These initially tiny entities have created thousands of novel, high value technology products and entirely new business sectors at a pace unlike that of any previous period of history. The proximate drivers for this economically valuable phenomenon can be traced to: (1) the federal government’s 1946 decision to use research universities as the core of the nation’s scientific research capability, and (2) the unplanned appearance of venture capital to fund the development of disruptive technological enterprises arising from scientific discoveries. The economic value of the new industries and products of these VC-funded enterprises has been a significant factor in America’s global economic leadership. In addition, they have provided this country with millions of new, high paying jobs. Despite this success, the financial consequences of the Great Recession are now exposing economic and other forces that are likely to bring about significant changes to the world of venture capital as it is practiced today. This talk will discuss these forces and how they will likely impact the efforts of entrepreneurs to raise funds for the development of their companies.
