World IA Day 2017 – Miami

What is World IA Day?
World Information Architecture Day (WIAD) is a one-day annual celebration hosted by the Information Architecture Institute and held in dozens of locations across the world. We are a community of like-minded professionals and enthusiasts who share the common goal of teaching, learning, and shaping the future of information architecture. Because of the ubiquitous nature of information, we see information architecture is not just practiced by specialists. Instead information is architected by people holding all sorts of titles, coming from all walks of life.
Join us as we celebrate the 5th edition of World IA Day here in Miami!
We’ll feature a hands on workshop led by Andrew Schultz, and virtual keynote by Dan Klyn.

Andrew Schultz
Andy Schultz is a designer. He fervently identifies problems and delivers solutions that bring value to people’s lives. His day job is leading the Information Architecture and Design Research at ADT and his night job is finding more problems to solve. He grew up in Wisconsin, worked in Chicago at Capgemini, Redbox, Walgreens, and Sears. After 18 years in the windy city, he moved to Florida to hug the sun.
Andy wanted to design cars as a kid so he earned an Industrial Design degree. After a short stint in sales and marketing, he found the two disciplines highly complimentary. He went back to school to the Institute of Design where he received a Masters of Design in Design Planning that bridges business with user-centered design.
To re-engergize from working, he practiced Bikram yoga and currently practices Ashtanga yoga and runs. Downtime is also spent with his wife and twin girls in Boca and has promised them an another Rottweiler once they move into a house.

WIAD Global Theme
Every year the Information Architecture Institute establsihes a global theme. It’s meant to serve as a common thread to connect all participating. Please see details below.
WIAD 17 Theme: Information Strategy & Structure
In today’s world, organizations are required to rethink how to architect and manage information to maintain a competitive and organizational edge. Many are embracing strategies that are more flexible, moving away from isolated systems and departmental silos. These organizations recognize the need for information to be structured so that it is clear, usable, findable and understandable.
But, the need for information strategy and structure extends beyond the enterprise. Whether information is architected to inform algorithms, to bring awareness to important societal challenges, or to clearly communicate available resources to help those in need; information strategy and structure plays an important role in our everyday lives.
Join us on February 18, 2017 as information architecture practitioners around the world come together to celebrate, share knowledge, and bring awareness to the importance of strategy and structure.
