EDC is announcing a series of events in Miami that have resulted from our long-standing partnership with the Miami Downtown Development Authority (“DDA”). Every one to two months, EDC will hold a “Meet the Investor” event series, that will be a combination of limited one-on-one introductions between an active early stage investor group and some of South Florida’s most promising startups followed by an early evening investor reception where a broader audience of entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to more directly learn from each investor’s specific process for applicants and advice to these startups.
The objective of these direct “capital Introductions” is to help startups acquaint themselves with active Florida and non-Florida early stage investors and help the investors identify South Florida’s best emerging investor-ready companies. Additionally we want to enable EDC to better prepare and present companies to engage investors and facilitate ongoing investor/startup discussions and updates.
Clearly, the core goal here is to begin to address our continued challenge of making sure our startups receive maximum investor exposure. Specifically, while Miami and all of South Florida are enjoying unprecedented growth in everything entrepreneurial and our region has been broadly publicized as one of the US’s top startup hotspots, there still remains very major challenges in attracting capital; resulting in many of our early stage entrepreneurs either giving up or giving up approaching Florida investors to raise funds out-of-state.
Again, to address this issue, EDC will hold these regular meetings to highlight a particular active investor group who will provide background on their fund, including what are key factors in evaluating an investment, and perhaps even dig into relevant specific topics (valuation, due diligence, critical investment criteria, etc.) as well as facilitate audience questions.
We have already received strong interest from numerous high promise startups and hope you can join us for this series. We will be holding a kickoff on Thursday, November 3rd at the IDEA Center, Miami, FL, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. with New World Angels’ new president, Steve O’Hara.
To participate in the limited one-on-one introductions with investors, please email your executive summary and pitch deck to firstname.lastname@example.org . The EDC plans to review your information to assure that you are presenting your company in the best possible way. The investor will review the summaries to determine 4 or more companies to meet with.
